Thank you for your interest in youth mentoring!
The drop out rate in Denver high schools is 37% and 42% of Denver’s homeless people are under the age of 18. Studies show that mentoring programs help young people improve their school performance, social skills, self-esteem and ultimately, their future.
By mentoring, you will strengthen our community and make a difference in the life of a young person. As a mentor, you provide a structured trusting relationship that provides support and encouragement to make better life choices.
You don’t need any special skills. Mentoring is simply making a commitment to a young person who will benefit from a positive adult role model.
Mentoring 101
Mentoring 101 trainings provide information about the roles and responsibilities of mentors and introduce participants to different mentoring opportunities. In addition each participant has the opportunity to meet with someone who can assist them in determining which of the mentoring agencies will be the best match.
Happy Hour
If you prefer a more relaxed and informal setting we invite you to join us for a Happy Hour session at Dazzle’s Restaurant and Lounge (930 Lincoln St., Denver, CO 80203). There will be food, fun and the opportunity to learn more about mentoring. The Happy Hours are hosted from 5:00-6:30 where you can meet current mentors and representatives from Youth Mentoring Collaborative agencies. We can answer your questions about mentoring and assist in finding the agency that is the best match for you. Feel free to bring a friend or two, so they can learn about mentoring as well. This will be a nice way to relax and have fun while learning about how you can help change a young person's life.
If you are ready to get started today please complete a mentor questionnaire. You can submit your questionnaire online, or you can download the questionnaire and fax the document to Katie Driggins at 303-455-6462. Upon receipt of your questionnaire, a representative will schedule an appointment to determine which Youth Mentoring Collaborative agency is the best match for you to begin your mentoring experience. We will register you for a Mentoring 101 workshop, and then you will complete an application, interview, background screening and training with the organization that you select to do your mentoring.
