Bridging Differences: Mentoring Across Age, Gender, Race, Ethnicity, Religion and Life Experiences Print
Hosted by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Colorado

Do you ever find it challenging to understand and bridge the differences between you and your mentee?  Is it sometimes difficult to relate to your mentee who may come from a different background than yours? Strong  mentoring relationships are built on a sense of trust and safety, so that both the mentor and the mentee feel appreciated and respected for exactly who they are.

In this workshop we’ll talk about ways we can bridge the differences that may exist between ourselves and our mentee - including age, gender, race, ethnicity, religion,  life and economic circumstances - by being “culturally competent” mentors who understand where our mentees are coming from and approach cultural differences as an opportunity for learning. Join us to share your own questions and ideas about how to be a culturally competent mentor.
