Understanding Poverty
Between 2008 and 2009 Colorado experienced the fastest growing number of children living in poverty in the nation.
(from 2011 “KIDS COUNT in Colorado”)

Poverty is a complicated issue.  In this workshop we’ll take a broad look at this challenging topic and talk about:
·         Some of the different theories about poverty and its causes
·         Different viewpoints of poverty including material from Ruby Payne’s book Framework of Poverty and Paul Tough’s book Whatever it Takes: Geoffrey Canada’s Quest to Change Harlem and America
·         The effects of poverty on our kids and families
·         How we can use this information to make a positive impact in our work

**This is the 6th workshop in a 7 part series that can taken for Graduate Credit from Adams State College.  You don't have to do the series to participate in the training however.   Please contact youthmentoringcollaborative@gmail.com for more info.

To cover the cost of these wonderful trainings, we are now charging $10 per person per training.  Please bring a check the night of the training, made out to the "Youth Mentoring Collaborative."  If you are with a YMC agency, your agency will pay for you.
